Ralph Gibson is an American Photographer who works to show a particular interest in light and shadow from his black and white work. Gibson primarily works on black and white photography. Gibson uses geometric elements that are in everyday life, such as a face, the curve of a human arm, and the human body primarily the erotic parts.
This photo by Gibson is the first one in his collection that caught my eye. I like the way the lips are the focus of the picture, the way the mirror reflects the smile of the woman. The way the woman is smiling I can't help but smile myself.
I absolutely love this picture with the shadows. The shadow looks like another face on this woman's. It got me thinking about my sub-conscious, how there is always a voice in your head telling you what to do. That shadow that covers her face is facing looking at her eye, while her real eye is looking away. This made me feel as if your sub-conscious is always going to try and keep you on track, while the eye in this case is what you want to do and what you are trying to do.
